Message from the Dean, Student Affairs

As we step into the beginning of 2026, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi continues to uphold its long-standing legacy of academic excellence and holistic student development. Since its establishment in 1955, the Institute has been imparting quality education across diverse disciplines, including Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Management, and allied areas.
In line with the Institute’s residential education model, it is mandatory for all students to reside in the hostels during the course of their study. The campus presently houses 14 hostels, comprising 11 boys’ hostels and 3 girls’ hostels, designed to ensure a safe, disciplined, and enriching living environment.
Each hostel operates its own mess, managed by the student body, fostering responsibility and participative governance. The hostels are well-equipped with essential amenities such as TV halls, reading rooms, indoor sports facilities, and common rooms. Internet connectivity is provided in students’ rooms, and all hostels have outdoor sports facilities, including volleyball and badminton courts.
To ensure student welfare and prompt support, every hostel is supervised by a dedicated team of Wardens and Assistant Wardens, who remain available 24×7 to address student needs and emergencies.
Beyond academics and residential facilities, the Institute strongly encourages student engagement through co-curricular and extracurricular activities. BIT Mesra hosts approximately 34 clubs and societies, catering to cultural, technical, literary, and social interests. Each club is student-driven and mentored by a faculty advisor. Signature annual events such as the Athletic Meet, the technical fest PANTHEON, and the cultural festival BITOTSAV provide vibrant platforms for students to showcase their talents and leadership skills.
The Institute remains committed to providing students with a secure, supportive, and stimulating campus life. Students joining Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra can look forward to not only academic rigor but also a comfortable and fulfilling residential experience that contributes to their overall personal and professional growth.
