The Department of Computer Science & Engineering has three technical clubs:

DATA SCIENCE AND MACHINE LEARNING CLUB

MENTOR :

DR. SHRIPAL VIJAYVARGIYA, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, CSE

CO-MENTORS :

1. DR. MADHAVI SINHA, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, CSE
2. MR. SUBHASH CHAND GUPTA, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, CSE
3. MR. B. PATHAK, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, CSE
4. DR. SEEMA GAUR, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, CSE
5. DR. ANJU SHARMA, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, CSE

TECHNICAL BACK GROUND AND UTILITY OF THE CLUB:

Data Science and Machine Learning have dominated the industry overpowering every aspect like Data Analytics, ETL, and Business Intelligence. Data Science as a multi-disciplinary subject encompasses the use of mathematics, statistics, and computer science to study and evaluate data. The key objective of Data Science is to extract valuable information for use in strategic decision making, product development, trend analysis, and forecasting. Data Science concepts and processes are mostly derived from data engineering, statistics, programming, social engineering, data warehousing, machine learning, and natural language processing. The key techniques in use are data mining, big data analysis, data extraction, and data retrieval.

Machine Learning analyzes large chunks of data automatically. IT basically automates the process of Data Analysis and makes data-informed predictions in real-time without any human intervention. A Data Model is built automatically and further trained to make real-time predictions.
This is where the Machine Learning Algorithms are used in the Data Science Lifecycle.

Given below are some of the most popular real-life applications of Machine Learning in Data Science:
- FRAUD DETECTION
- SPEECH RECOGNITION
- ONLINE RECOMMENDATION ENGINES
- ADVANCED IMAGE RECOGNITION
- AIRLINE ROUTE PLANNING
- WEBSITE RECOMMENDATIONS
- TARGETED ADVERTISING

Context and Relevance of this field:
Internet of Things (IoT) is essentially a seamless connected network of embedded objects/devices, with identifiers, in which M2M communication without any human intervention is possible using standard and interoperable communication protocols. In 2015, the Government of India had formulated a Draft IoT Policy with a vision to develop a connected and smart IoT based system for our country's economy, society, environment and global needs. Cloud technology is at core of Internet of Things to provide the global and integrated sharing of resources including computing Hardware, storage and software.

Application Areas / domain :
Smart Agriculture, Transportation, Environment Monitoring, Healthcare, Smart wearable, Industrial IoT, Energy Distribution and Metering, Smart Vehicles and other applications, Cloud
based integrated sharing of resources

Issues and Challenges:
Following concerns and challenges need to be addressed effectively:

● Security and Privacy
● Seamless Integration of heterogeneous system
● Power-economic communication
● Voluminous data processing and mining
● Distributed storage and processing over cloud

Activities of the Group:
The activities of the club have been well formulated to develop interest and competence of the students in the related technologies with emphasis on application aspects of the concepts.
Following activities have been considered:

- Learning through technical magazines and journals

- Development of Iot-based small setup and applications

- Paper writing & presentation

- Quiz and group discussions on the club theme related topics

- Conduction of Workshops and practical training sessions

- Interaction with eminent industrial and academic experts in the domain of club theme

- Industry oriented case studies

MR. SANTOSH KUMAR SHARMA, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, CSE
MR. SANTOSH KUMAR AGARWAL, ASSOCIATE LECTURER, CSE

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND AND UTILITY OF THE CLUB

Today programming skills are essential tools that are utilized and incorporated into various fields and domains. Hence, it becomes essential to equip young minds with such skills. This Club aims to establish a coding culture in the campus, reaching every student who is passionate about coding and provide a platform for understanding algorithms and developing applications.

The association with this club will create interest of students in this technological domain and inspire their creativity to innovate through practical learning and application oriented mindset. Undoubtedly , this is the aspect mainly seen in the engineering profession and thus will definitely boost the career prospects and employability. With competence in this domain, students could positively look for exciting career in IT Industry and Premier Research Organizations like ; ISRO, DRDO, etc.
