About Us
The Department of Chemical Engineering with its well qualified faculties provide high standard of education and research in the diversified fields of Chemical Engineering. We have NBA accredited B. Tech programme in Chemical Engineering with 120 seat capacity and PhD in the core and applied domain of Chemical engineering. We are starting a new BTECH programme in Food Engineering and Technology with 30 Seat Capacity starting in July 2023.
The academic curriculum of both the existing and proposed courses is up-to-dated to CBCS in line with the recent scenario in the field while retaining the core concepts from the discipline. Faculty introduced new electives related to their research and recent industrial developments. Over last few years, an increase in sponsored research, industrial collaboration and consultancy, research publications, technology transfer and patent filling reflect our continuous progress. We are DST-FIST supported department and we received continuous sponsored research funding from DRDL, DRDO, DBT, DST, ICMR, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Coir Board, CCL, etc.
We tried to maintain a strong Academia –industry relationship and we insist our students to take part in the industrial projects, and to accept pre placement offers as final year project in the Industry. Our students are placed in esteemed core and software companies across the word. To name some of our recruiters ADITY BIRLA, TATA STEEL, ZINDAL, RELIANCE, PWC, STARLITE, GOOGLE, WIPRO, AMAZON, ACCENTURE and many more with an average CTC of 8 Lac.
Our students are pursuing their higher studies in the institute of national and international repute including different IITs and NITs, University of Illinois (Urbana CHAMPEIN), Purdue, BROWN university, University of Iowa and many others.
In addition we have IICHE, BIT MESRA student chapter to make the students aware with the recent requirement and progress of chemical engineering and to give an opportunity to be a member of wide chemical engineering fraternity.
We have state of the art laboratory facilities comprising the high end equipments, processing line and cutting edge computational facility with modern simulations software to cater the modern industrial requirements. We have 7 undergraduate laboratories covering the length and breadth of the core concepts of the disciplines that includes Heat and Mass transfer lab, fluid and mechanical operations, reaction engineering and energy, process control, Chemical engineering, Chemical synthesis, material processing and computational lab with new edge software like COMSOL, ASPEN, ANSYS, MAT LAB and others. In addition, we have 4 advanced research lab covering the area of recent advancement of energy, material, process engineering, and computational fluid dynamics.
We have also well-equipped facility supporting the recent industrial need of food engineering and technology. The laboratory facility has been augmented in line with the recent requirement of industry 4.0. There are 6 available high end laboratories in Food Engineering and technology domain to make the student familiar the current industrial and research advancements including food chemistry, food process engineering, food microbiology & safety engineering, food quality control, food process data analytics, and a state of the art food proceeding pilot plant.
We welcome you all to visit our department for your valuable remarks and suggestion.
Vision
To be a centre of excellence for the provision of effective teaching/learning, skill development and research in the areas of chemical engineering and allied areas through the application of chemical engineering principles.
Mission
-
To educate and prepare graduate engineers with critical thinking skills in the areas of chemical engineering & polymer science and engineering, who will be the leaders in industry, academia and administrative services, both at national and international levels.
-
To inculcate a fundamental knowledge base in undergraduate students which enable them to carry out post-graduate study, do innovative interdisciplinary doctoral research and to be engaged in long-life learning.
-
To train students in addressing the challenges in chemical, petrochemical, polymer and allied industries by developing sustainable and eco-friendly technologies.
