- Admission to BHM program 2025 - an Introduction
The Bachelor of Hotel Management(BHM) program at the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi is of 4 years duration.

The Department of Management at BIT Mesra has been offering hotel management education since 2003, recognizing the multifaceted scope of the hospitality industry encompassing culinary arts, guest services, accommodation operations, and value-driven service excellence. With a dynamic blend of faculty from both academia and the hospitality sector, the Department has continually evolved to meet industry needs. Starting from 2025, the Department is launching a newly curated 4-Year Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) program, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This program provides multiple entry and exit options, enabling flexible learning pathways for students. Replacing the earlier Bachelor of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (BHMCT) program, this new structure offers a more comprehensive and future-ready curriculum, grounded in a Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) and designed to impart core operational expertise alongside managerial competencies through an innovative pedagogical approach.

The foremost objective of the Department is to produce the most competent hospitality professionals to fill various positions in the emerging hospitality sectors. The emphasis is laid on practical application of theoretical lessons in all four core areas through training, laboratory work, hands-on workshops, theme parties, projects and study tours. Students are encouraged to learn and undertake research activities during their course. All students go on “Industrial Exposure Training” for 18 weeks in various Star Hotels as a part of their curriculum. Apart from Industrial Training, students also go for vocational training in between their semester break.
The Department has various well-equipped laboratories such as Food Production, Finishing kitchen, Training Bakery, Food and Beverage Service, Training Bar, Accommodation Operation & Front Office.
